I was cruizin' the internet for some entertainment and stumbled upon chatroulette, a new service allowing you to be couple to a (video) chat with people all over the world.
Now we do know that some people are considered "not normal" and we should respect that, however when I found this, I couldn't help but to laugh rolling on the floor.
It's that time again......... "scientific" at home tests you can do with household items, as always use common sense, electricity is dangerous and sometimes deadly. I will not take any responsibility for anything that may happen.
Electricity is most often generated at a power station by electromechanical generators, primarily driven by heat engines fueled by chemical combustion or nuclear fission but also by other means such as the kinetic energy of flowing water and wind.
But that's not what we are looking for, we're looking for the experiments you can do which such ordinary items that you can't believe it's true!
A famous one, the potato battery:
You'll need: a) two different metal strips and one potato. copper, aluminum, zinc (galvanized steel)
b) stick the metal wires into the potato.
And that already functions as a battery? Yes it does, because of a chemical reaction provided by an acid contained in the potato with the 2 different metals, a current will flow between the 2 wires.
Of course you can also try out your experiment with making a circuit with potato batteries in series of parallel circuits. Test with a sensitive volt meter, or LED etc. And see what you can come up with.
It speaks to our imagination: Extraterrestrial life, UFO's, Spacecrafts....
Countless UFO sightings have been reported and a search on the internet will give numerous results. However there are some compelling movies to be found on the internet, one in particular being a Official FAA cockpit recordings of pilot UFO sightings.
That in itself would already prove the existence of UFO's since the true meaning of the word is an Unidentified Flying Object. Neither the pilots of the Lufthansa aircraft nor air traffic control Boston could identify the object, thus results in it being an UFO. Now does that automatically mean that we are dealing with an Extraterrestrial UFO? Or perhaps even aliens?
For this, there can be found, once again, numerous websites giving all sorts of information, however most of the information to be found has no scientific grounds to hold up on.
There are scientific agencies investigating Extraterrestrial live forms though, for example in the form of "alien" radio signals picked up from outer-space. The "fun" part of this comes to play in programs like SETIathome. where you can take part in yourself if you have a computer with internet.
SETIathome is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data, found by clicking the SETIatHOME link just above.
The two original goals of SETIathome were: -
to prove the viability and practicality of the 'distributed grid computing' concept, and
to do useful scientific work by supporting an observational analysis to detect intelligent life outside Earth.
The first of these goals is generally considered to have succeeded completely. The current BOINC environment, a development of the original SETIathome, is providing support for several computationally intensive projects in a wide range of disciplines.
The second of these goals has failed to date: no evidence for ETI signals has been shown via SETIathome. However, ongoing continuation is predicated on the assumption that the observational analysis is not an 'ill-posed' one.
So out of the second goal, 2: We can can conclude that SETIathome, although backed up with a worldwide network of computers, hasn't been able to prove the existence of alien life forms or their speculated radio-transmissions. Still considering the vastness of our galaxy and other galaxies, it is to be speculated that the possibility for extraterrestrial life can't be neglected.
Many more "mysterious" sightings have been reported, a well-known site is Area 51, the top secret U.S. Air Force installation in Nevada.
This picture to the left shows a satellite picture of Area 51, it hasn't got an ICAO or FAA identifier, it "does not exist".
The base's primary purpose is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems.
Which would explain the UFO sightings, since an experimental aircraft not acknowledged by the government, would constitute in being an Unidentified Flying Object, not necessarily being an Alien craft.
Still.... The imagination needs to be fueled, wondering, about what could be out there, perhaps someday the scientists of SETIathome will find a signal from outer space, Maybe the Mayan calender (2012) does have something to do with Extraterrestrial live. Fact is though, there is a good possibility that we'll never find out and maybe, we don't really want to.
Who doesn't know Google, it's been the internet search engine leader since as long as I know internet.
And if you guys shoulf wonder what the first Google-server looked like, the picture on the left is the very first production Google Server.
Now we take everything for granted, but fact is, Google has changed our lives, if we want to go some place, or just want to see distant places, we just use MAPS.GOOGLE.COM where you can have a satellite view of your "destination" on-demand, routes, estimated travel times, it even tells you the expected delays in times of heavy traffic.
What I didn't know though, were some of the new cool features within the Google engine, one of which is the Google blog search GOOGLE BLOG SEARCH which allows you to google within blogs, for their content, how cool is that?
Or maybe you are one of those new inventors, you have that idea of the year and it's going to make you richer than richy rich! Or is that idea not so original after all? Google released a patent-search engine (beta stage) that allows you to search for patents, now let's look up if there is a patent for: a patent search engine! Ha ha ... you can find it all in here: GOOGLE PATENTS.
And then there is always the problem of finding an interesting website dealing with:
That new exotic hobby yours, too bad it's in Chinese Doh!
No worries, the folks at Google took care of that problem as well, just fill in the URL in the little box, et voila it's translated in something readable! Find the Google page translator here : GOOGLE PAGE TRANSLATOR. It will let you choose translations between 51 different languages!
Or ever had to completely re-install your computer, after you had a virus on your hard drive? Then you know that you'll be searching for hours, to get all the programs back on your computer to make it a use-able machine again, and once again, Google comes to the rescue with their new GOOGLE PACK one complete package that does it all, for free!
It comes with: The new Google chrome browser, which by the way works very intuitive and fast, Google apps, Google desktop, Adobe reader, Google Talk, Real-player, Google earth, Google toolbar for IE, Spy-ware doctor with antivirus (if only you had that before your computer crashed), Picassa and Skype.
